Fractional CTO, software delivery lead, and the person clients call when there's an important technical problem and nobody to own it.
I started in software straight out of a first-class Computer Science degree, building inspection software used across most of the UK's playgrounds. Academic rigour, immediate real-world impact — that combination set the tone for everything since.
Over the following decade I led software delivery at some of the UK's most recognisable organisations: multi-year engagements at E.ON and Experian, and projects for the NHS, AstraZeneca, McDonald's, Sky and UK Government. In parallel I co-founded and built a place-promotion platform that grew to over 100,000 app users across 70+ towns — every piece of the technology built by me, from apps and dashboards to augmented-reality trails. I sold my stake in 2023. After the acquisition I remained on the board as a non-executive director — which gave me the other side of the table: governance, strategy, and steering a product I'd built from the inside out.
Today I work as a fractional CTO and hands-on builder. I'm at my best given an important, half-defined problem and the freedom to own it through to something live and useful. I deliberately keep a small number of engagements so each one gets proper attention.
I'm based in the North East of England and work with clients globally.

Embedded, not consultative
I work inside your team — making decisions and writing code — not billing by the hour for opinions from the outside.
Strategy and delivery together
Most people do one or the other. I set the direction in the morning and ship against it in the afternoon. That breadth is the point.
A small number of clients
You're one of three or four, not one of thirty. That matters when you need a fast, senior decision on a Monday morning.

Deep enough to build it myself
Stack: Node.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, AWS, Docker. AI/ML: LLM integration, vector search, speech analysis, evaluation frameworks, automation. Leadership: system design, API strategy, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, team leadership, R&D strategy.
